Do not assume every pair of Gemini smart glasses will offer the same experience with your phone. Google's May 19 eyewear announcement says the glasses will pair with Android and iOS phones. Samsung's July 22 announcement puts specific Galaxy requirements on the Gemini experience it describes.
What Google announced
Google outlined two types of intelligent eyewear: audio glasses with spoken assistance, and display glasses that also show information. It said audio glasses would arrive first, targeting fall 2026, with Samsung, Gentle Monster and Warby Parker among its partners. This is a recap of those plans, not a new launch announcement.
Read the Samsung footnotes
Samsung says its described Gemini functionality requires Samsung and Google accounts, a compatible Samsung Galaxy AI phone, and a data or internet connection. Its separate feature note says gesture interactions are provided through Watch9. Samsung also qualifies availability by supported apps, services, languages and regions.
These sources address different scopes: Google's broader eyewear plans and Samsung's specified experience. They do not justify a blanket claim that all models require a Galaxy phone, or that every Galaxy feature works on an iPhone. Exact-model compatibility remains the useful question.
Three questions before choosing a pair
Our buying interpretation: separate basic pairing from the functions you actually need. Can your exact phone connect? Does the feature you want work on that phone? Does it also require another device, an account or a supported service? A yes to the first question is not enough to settle the other two.
Make that check with your main use case in mind. Someone prioritizing calls may have different requirements from someone buying for translation or wearable controls. Compare the current model-specific support page and regional listing against that use case before committing.
What this report cannot confirm
Choosense has not tested either company's eyewear. We are not assigning one release day, price or feature set to the entire Android XR glasses category. This source check was completed October 4; manufacturer announcements describe planned capabilities, not independently verified everyday performance.
